Findlays Ducks!!!

Many of you that follow my blog and Sharons, will also maybe follow an inspirational young man called Findlay Wilde on his blog site if you do not follow his Blog, I strongly recommend you do so.

Today Sharon and I went across to RSPB Burton Mere to meet Findlay and his family, unfortunately mum Heather was poorly but it was a delight to meet Dad Nigel, brother Harley... and of course Findlay. The reason for meeting them despite wanting to meet this young man who has such a passion for the natural world, was to pass on a painting Sharon had done for him.

A while back Findlay posted this photo on his blog

The unique composure of the Shelduck and Pintails in a line really took Sharon's eye, and she produced this wonderful watercolour painting of Findlays photo...

Sharon had told Findlay he could have the painting if he liked it, which of course he did, we got it framed, and arranged with Heather to meet them locally at Burton Mere, so Sharon could pass it on to him.

It was a real pleasure to meet them this morning, they are a lovely family, and we will hopefully get out for a longer visit some where in the New Year, when hopefully Heather is better.... we hope you are soon!

Whilst there I rattled off a few snaps, to be honest we were chatting most of the time and the bitterly cold wind certainly didn't help, but at least I got some record shots of the visit.

Findlay with Sharon

  1. Findlay and Harley have talked non-stop about meeting you guys today. We are all looking forward to another outing in the New Year. I have finally got an emergency doctors appointment at 9pm tonight, so hopefully I will firing on all cylinders again soon xxxxx

    1. Heather, it was great to meet them this morning, Findlay looked really disappointed that we had to leave, had we not had to get up to Preston we would have stayed a lot longer, but we are both really looking forward to another outing in the New Year. Take care and hope the Doctors sort you out!!
Happy New Year to you all.

  2. What a beautiful painting and how kind of Sharon to present it to Findlay! I'm sure he and his family are thrilled with it!

Lovely to see the Nuthatch, I find them very elusive and have only ever managed 'record shots'. What is it about Rat's tails I wonder....I think they are sweet, tails and all ;-)

  3. It's wonderful to hear you have met up with Findlay as he really is joy to meet and see his love of wildlife.
I hope we can all meet up in the not to distant future.

  4. What a wonderful gift for young Findlay. I am sure he will treasure it always.

  5. Looks like you all had a great time Gary, and I'm sure Findlay will treasure the painting all his life. Very kind of Sharon to do that for him.
Happy new year to you both.

  6. Gary, That is such a heartwarming story and full marks to you and Sharon for encouraging young Findlay in this way. I think he is already well and truly hooked on wildlife, but your joint help is great to read about.

  7. It was brilliant to meet you and Sharon. I think you definitely won the best Nuthatch picture competition, but I will practice more for next time. See you in 2013. From Findlay

  8. It,s so nice to see young people taking an interest in wildlife and all the encouragement Findlay is getting from his family.Sharon what a wonderful watercolour and I am sure Findlay will treasure it.

a few of the images aren't loading correctly. I'm not sure why but
